Ben Varel is proud to be a third-generation Pioneer Sales Representative, following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps.

His grandfather, Bill Varel, started selling Pioneer® brand seed in the area in 1942, and some 30 years later Ben’s father, Jerome Varel, took over the business. Ben joined his dad in 1989, and in 1997 became the owner of what is now Ben Varel Seed. Ben’s nephews, Nolan and Kirk Varel, are also part of his family-based team, assisting in the warehouse.

Over the past 80 years, the business has been built on a solid foundation of putting growers first. Ben and his team believe success has come from being available to growers to help them get things done, delivering products on time, and treating each person with respect.

The agency is known for providing excellent customer service, which includes recommending products and services that are in the growers’ best interest.

“My favorite part of this work is helping growers determine the best choices for their farming operations in order to deliver optimum yields and products,” Ben says.

In addition to being a trusted partner, Ben supports his local community by donating time and money to the local fire department, school, county fair, and other community causes.
